16th Stage

16th Stage, at first sounds like something of an oddity. With the main synth line resembling an old polyphonic ringtone, the first minute and a half leaves you wondering where exactly the song is going. Is there some kind of lo-fi midi house scene that I've completely missed? Then, almost without realising, it's warm sounds and gliding synths take over, leaving you feeling all nice and cozy on the inside.
The great thing about this opening track from U.S producer Todd Osborne's first self-titled LP is that it never builds to anything resembling a climax. At just over 8 minutes in length Osborne is comfortable enough to take his time with this one. 16th Stage is the kind of mellow house track I'd imagine they would be chilling on the clouds to at a club in heaven.
